Fifty years ago a roadside marker was placed on the highway where General Louis Hebert was interred in a small private cemetery. Members of the Hebert Camp 2032 recently refurbished the old marker and on Sunday November 09, 2003 that marker was placed at the Cecilia Catholic Church where the General was recently re-interred. The ceremony was attended by over 200 members of the Church.

A workday was scheduled to clean up the area around the Camp Pratt Memorial Marker near New Iberia on 5-21-05. This group cleaned up the wide highway right of way up to the property line. The crew consisted from left to right, Clarence Bonin, Clarence Vannoy, Donald Boudreaux, Perry Vannoy, Heathe Courville and Murphy Vincent. Not shown is Travis Callahan.
The General Louis Hebert Camp members have adopted and will maintain the area around the marker. This marker will be re-dedicated by the Camp on 5-28-05 with noted Author Morris Raphael speaking on the historical significance of Camp Pratt . The land adjoining the marker is the original site of the Camp.
After the cleanup, the area on the right of this picture was clear and will enable an estimated 30 cars to park at a 90degree angle to the road and well clear of the paved shoulder shown in the pictures above. In the past tourists had to park on the paved shoulder with the marker nearly obscured by heavy vegetation .
Our special Thanks to the Highway Department for providing the basic cleanup which allowed us to safely park away from the highway to complete our work.
